I am a Prostate Cancer Survivor
I had to jump off the buckboard on our shared journey for recovery from and prevention of sexual abuse of children.
My doctors told me I had prostate cancer and if I wanted to continue the journey I had to address the cancer. The urology department of the Minneapolis VA Hospital supported by multiple PSA tests and a prostate biopsy confirmed the cancer diagnosis and then convinced my procrastinating mind to get off the buckboard with statements like: “You will not be protecting children in the near future if you don’t take care of yourself now !”
Now, the doctors are telling me I kicked the shit out of the Grim Reaper ! The only current bad news is that I cannot run fast enough to catch up with the team of buckboards filled with advocates on the recovery from sexual abuse and child protection journey.
The following chronology outlines the personal steps taken when I jumped off the buckboard to my present run to catch up to that buckboard. Bob Schwiderski
